Digital Literacy – Inquiry Project Pitch
For our inquiry assignment, our pod is exploring how to build an accessible technical portfolio and navigate the modern job search using AI-supported tools. As computer science students, we’ve noticed that much of our technical work such as projects, code, and external learning often stays hidden inside our local computers or disconnected platforms. Our goal is to bridge that gap by translating technical experience into a clear, professional digital presence.
We are especially interested in how platforms like GitHub and LinkedIn can be more intentionally connected, and how AI tools can support that process. By combining technical documentation, portfolio design, and emerging AI workflows, we aim to better showcase our skills in ways that are visible, accessible, and relevant to today’s hiring landscape.
Inquiry Focus
Rather than treating this project as a single research question, our inquiry centers on a shared problem: how technical work can be translated into professional insight without losing meaning, accessibility, or authenticity. More specifically, we are examining how AI can support:
- Translating complex technical projects into clear, high-level summaries.
- Improving resumes and portfolios so they align with job descriptions, utilize languages and platforms such as OverLeaf and LaTeX to curate and design effective resumes.
- Designing professional materials that are both accessible to humans and readable by automated hiring systems.
- Understanding the ethical implications of AI-supported profiling and algorithmic screening in hiring.
These questions will guide our exploration as we experiment with tools and reflect on their effectiveness, limitations, and broader implications. Some of the inquiry steps and guidelines we are using can be found on this link.
The Process & Platforms
Individually, we will document our learning through regular blog posts that reflect on tool use, research findings, and design decisions throughout the term. These posts will focus on what works, what doesn’t, and how our understanding evolves over time. As a pod, we will meet weekly to share progress, peer-review each other’s work, and refine our inquiry direction.
Final Product
Our inquiry will be presented as a Zoom-recorded presentation showcasing a comprehensive resource for students looking to build their own AI-enhanced portfolios. This video will demonstrate the end-to-end workflow from a raw, technical project into a polished and connected digital presence.
